چکیده

This study presents a multi-disciplinary approach for the hydrogeological assessment and characterization of water resources in typical arid semi-arid areas with high anthropogenic pressure, where environmental conditions political context prevent extensive field surveys. The use three-dimensional (3D) conceptual model, integrating hydrochemical multi-isotope data, is proposed Batna Biskra area (NE Algeria). Geological data were assembled 3D geological software, from which model was constructed, included delineation groundwater flow directions. isotopic characterization, including deuterium oxygen composition (δ2H δ18O), tritium (3H), provided information regarding recharge sources, pathways residence times groundwaters. Hydrochemical parameters, measured on same samples, supported interpretation isotope data. All processed geographic system (GIS) environment. effectiveness this tested complex aquifers heterogeneity. Results show important role tectonic setting an can play hydrogeology hydrochemistry its principal systems. fault network region connects different aquifers, resulting mixing most influenced by structures southern part area, close to city. In fact, besides limited contribution rain surface derived flood events, Cenozoic seems proceed ascension deeper Cretaceous groundwaters through network, as indicated temperature, bulk chemistry particular δ2H, δ18O 3H results. contrast, results suggest that low mineralized Maastrichtian waters primarily local precipitation runoff mountainous northern area. Tritium content, salinity, all such be mix pre-bomb (deeper flow-lines within aquifer) recent water, no deepest Continental Intercalaire reduces ambiguity about studied aquifer systems, greatly improves understanding their behaviour, could provide insights into vulnerability pollution phenomena. methodology used appears valid tool applied other geographical areas, inform design implementation efficient management strategies aimed at improving quality availability resources. Moreover, modelling methods are becoming increasingly aspects management, obtain detailed picture subsurface conditions.

The Landscape as a Unit for Rangeland Inventory in Arid and Semi-arid Regions of Iran

Severe range degradation was critically extended in many region of Iran and caused many rangelands were restricted and interwoven with croplands in a complex system. Therefore, rangeland planning and inventory as an isolated activity has become almost impossible. Current landscape planning involves contributions of different social organizations often with different interests and with different...

Long Lead Flood Simulation Using Downscaled GCM Data in Arid and Semi-arid Regions: A Case Study

Flood is one of the most calamitous natural disasters that causes extensive property and life damages across theworld. It however, could be a blessing due to its special natural water resources recharging value. By simulating themagnitude of probable floods considering the anthropogenic and natural effects and implementing contingency plans, their damages could be reduced. In this paper, the Gen...

Investigating the interaction between rivers and sand dunes in arid and semi-arid regions of Iran

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Fluvial and aeolian processes are important factors in changing the surface of morphology in the Earth. When rivers and sand dunes meet, the transportation of sediment  between them can lead to one of the systems or both  of them change. With their connection between river sediment and wind systems there would be lots of reactions, but very little has been st...

Trend analysis and detection of precipitation fluctuations in arid and semi-arid regions

The most important impacts of climate change relate to temperature and precipitation. Precipitation is particularly important, because changes in precipitation patterns may lead to floods or droughts in different areas. Also, precipitation is a major factor in agriculture and in recent years interest has increased in learning about precipitation variability for periods of months to annual and s...
